Jim was born at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, IN. Jim attended grades 1 thru 6 at Bunker Hill School, Franklin Township in Marion County, IN.

Eagle scout court of honor for Jim's nephew, Randy Garriott, 3/1998. Jim, Mike & Randy were Eagle scouts and firecrafters. Their father, Bob was scout master and firecrafter.

Jim, sons Joseph and Jason, and their dog Ashley. Jim loved nature and the outdoors. He liked to hike. He and his sons took walks in the woods.
