Sherron, in 1939 was a student at University of Southern Mississippi where her Uncle Dever Pickens was Dean of Men. After her junior year, she dropped out to aid in the WW2 war effort.

In 1943, Sherron was civil service secretary in the Post Engineer's Office at Camp Shelby, Miss. Note the then-appropriate church attire, hat, dress, gloves, purse, hose and dress shoes.

On June 24, 1945, Sherron Pickens Gooch and Anthony Richard Poropat were married in Court Street Methodist Church, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. They honeymooned in New Orleans.

Sherron was a superb interior decorator who made her house a home by using many items obtained at countless antique shops, shows, estate sales and auctions over the years.

June 24, 1995 marked Sherron and Tony's 50th Anniversary. At left are Kay Ellen and Richard K. Poropat, holding Timothy and Matthew. At right are Anton W. and Julia Poropat Miller, with Allison and Nathan MiIler.

After 50 years, still smiling and still in love!

Sherron with two of her several "Pride and Joys", namely her fine son, Richard Kent Poropat, and her delightful daughter, Julia Elizabeth Poropat Miller.

Sherron and Tony at December 25, 1998, their last Christmas together.

Sherron takes a moment to relax and enjoy a bit of her flower gardens. Appropriately, she is shaded by a huge Althea bush, also known as Rose of Sharon. We have renamed it "Rose of Sherron".
