Hershel celebrated his 18th birthday crossing the Atlantic Ocean to serve his country in Germany during WW2.

Hershel served with his National Guard unit in Korea. As camp cook, he served his fellow men during diffucult and freezing times.

Hershel alwyas enjoyed his family. Times were spent fishing, boating, swimming, sledding and ice skating together.

Hershel always enjoyed fishing and anything to do with nature. He loved hiking and rock climbing and knew the names of wildflowers and herbs that grow in abundance.

Hershel loved automobiles and even fashioned one himself from an old Chevy chaise, painted it yellow, named it the "Huto" and took the family on trips in it.

Hershel always had a ready smile and he made everyone he talked with feel important.

Hershel and Eleanor loved every minute they spent together. They always made even the smallest event into a celebration.

Hershel enjoyed being in the center of his family. His 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren were always special to him and he always let each of them know.

What a guy! He swam all the way from Corpus Christi under water to rest on the veranda at Treasure Island, Florida or so Hershel said !!
