Samuel Patrick Archino

May 3, 1918 — June 9, 1969

Sam's mother died when he was five years old. His father took off leaving five children behind. Cy, the oldest was 16 and joined the Navy. Lena was 14 and went out to work. Tommy and Sam were 7 and 5 respectively and were sent to a Catholic orphanage until they were turned out at 14. Sam carried papers to survive and slept on park benches. He served in the Army during WW2 and was captured in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a POW for over a year and road out of Germany on a Russian tank. After he and Martha were married they lived first in Washington D.C., then moved to Indianapolis where Sam worked for PR Mallory. They transferred him and his family to Philadelphia in 1955 where they stayed until 1965, moving back to Indianapolis. Sam had a heart attack while in Philadelphia for Ann's college graduation.
