Phillip Leon Walker

Phil was an extremely colorful man to say the least. He was a man full of life and lived life to the fullest, nothing and no one slowed him down. He loved racing, Indy, NASCAR or Sprint; it made no difference if it was going fast or around an oval track you could find Phil there. Racing was truly his first love. His family also was very important to him. He was married to Carol Downton on May 12, 1956 until their divorce on June 1, 1986. From that union they had three children; Bradley, Bruce and Marcia. Each one of the children provided Phil with ine grandchild; Natalie, Jeremy and Michelle. Phil was blessed by six great-granchildren; Amayah, Emily, Alex, Angel, Jayden and William. Phil met and fell in love with Sharon Ann Wright. He brought his Bride-to-be to Las Vegas for a small lavish wedding attended by family and friends from Indy, Illinois, Florida and Nevada. They were married June 26, 1991 at the original Little Chapel of the West on the Las Vegas strip. The wedding was arranged by his sister Sandi and Gail who gave them a wedding reception at Cambridge Tower Kiefers at the top overlooking the Las Vegasa strip. They returned to Indy and Florida where they had homes. They were to live happily ever after. Not quite!...Ten years later In 2001, phil started to have heart problems on Ocobter 2, 2001 (seven years to the day he died). Phil had seven by pass surgery, which saved his life. In doing so they had to use the veins in his legs for the repair. As a result, Phil lost both of his legs below the knee. This did not stop him, it only slowed him down a little. He still liked to go to the tracks and travel. He really liked to visit his sister Sandi and "brother" Gail in Vegas and Idaho and they vacationed together in San Diego and Hawaii where they had lots of fun, good food and most of all laughs. They had a great love for each other. Phil and his brother Dave were more than brothers, they were best friends. Although they did have their difference, they were both "Alpha Maler" and Walkers to boot! It was a wonder they didn't kill each other. There was a special relationship with "baby brother" Mike, but I think Phil is still trying to figure that one out. Phil was # 5 out of 8 siblings and when he passed he was in the same order. So I am sure that he had plenty of greeters at the pearly gates with mom, dad, Johnny, Rosemary, Norman and Margie already there and ready to go racing.
