Norman W. Cox was born February 9, 1932 to Maurice Kyle Cox and Dorothy Mildred Bartle Cox. He was the third of three sons. Brother Lawrence "Larry" and Melvin "Mel". They lived in Indianapolis most of their young lives.Norman attended Arsenal Technical High School graduating in 1951.He was a US Army Corporal, serving in the Korean Conflict with Battery C 65th Armored Field Artillery Battalion 1952-1954.After the service he attended Lane Drafting College.He married Mary M. Lewis April of 1956; they had 6 children, Karla Jean Hastings, David Dale Cox, Pamela Sue Herrington, Michael Wayne Cox, Melvin Douglas Cox and Dorothy Lynn Welch.He worked for Central States Bridge, and M.S. Churchman until Norman and Marvin Ferguson founded Ferguson Steel where he worked until he retired. Norman was a structural steel engineer and Vice President of Ferguson Steel.He had 7 grandchildren, Scott Herrington, Laura Burton, Tara Burton, Lisa Kellar, Lyle Cox, Kyle Cox and Ashley Cox.He had 3 great grandsons Colby Herrington whom he loved spending time with. Logan Kellar whom was just a new born when Norman died. Nieven Herrington who was born after Norman died.He married Jeanne (Skeen) in March 1989. He was stepfather to her 3 children, George Skeen, Cindy Gerard and Tina Skeen. Step grandfather to Christy Gerard, Misty Gerard, Brittney Crawford and Brian Gerard. Step great grandfather to Austin Hinchman.Norman loved traveling. He had been to Hawaii, Jamaica, Bahamas, West Indes and several states, including Myrtle Beach where he had a time-share. He had a Cox Family Golf Tournament since 1988, with a trophy plaque with your team names on when you won. Norman loved Christmas with the families, some lasting for hours as he made everyone open gifts one at a time. Just to enjoy the family gathering. He loved attending Unity Village in Kansas for the World Day of Prayer. We attended Unity of Indianapolis while in town. After retiring he resided in N. Ft. Myers in the winter. He bought a home on the golf course and enjoyed the warm weather and playing golf in the winter months. We would visit Larry his brother in Okeechobee to go fishing. He was very active with the Unity church of Fort Myers, Habitat for Humanity and the Aids Task Force.Norman was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in May of 2003 and left us in October 2003 with the greatest send off a person could have. His whole family came on Saturday to see him and talk with him for the last time. He was in his own home with his loved ones with him when the Good Lord came to get him.His mother Dorothy, father Maurice and his brother Melvin preceded him in death. Survived by his wife Jeanne, sons, David, Mike and Mel, daughters Karla, Pam and Dorothy, brother Larry, stepchildren, Cindy, George and Tina.
