Norbert L. Mappes was the third child of Alois and Florence Mappes; other children were Dolores Hussong, Tom Mappes, Kate Bickers, Joe Mappes, Bernard Mappes and Caroline Underwood. He attended 12 years of school at Sacred Heart. He played on the first football team and made the first touchdown for the school. He graduated in 1948. Norb was married to Therese Rolfsen on November 24, 1949 in St. Roch's church. His employment through the years was Ace Beverage, B&F Beverage and 7Up as a night supervisor. Norb and Terry (Therese) had eight children, Terrence, Michael, Connie Shelburn, Kenny, John, Donald, Mary Sue Craft, Andrew and Bill. Norb was a Catholic youth organization football coach for 20 years for Holy Name School in Beech Grove. He received the John Bosco Award in 1965 for outstanding service for the youth. He also coached Little League Baseball. He has 24 grandchildren.
