Nellie Mae Jester Eytchison

May 31, 1885 — November 7, 1963

Nellie Jester was born into a Quaker family in Amo, Indiana and was raised as a Quaker. As a married adult she did not attend the church of her roots, but she was a Quaker lady all of her life. She was gentle and kind with a serenity that could only come from the soul. Even though she was widowed at age 44 with 6 children between the ages of 18 months and 18 years, she carried on without complaint or feeling of misfortune. Raising her family alone during the depression of the 1930's, she worked very hard and denied herself so that her children could have more. She was always there.Though there must have been times when she felt very saddened to be with out her husband and father of her children, no one ever knew it. At least, not her children. She spared them what must have been many hours of sadness and despair. She had been taught to work through her problems from within, which she did. Often, as she was doing her chores she was singing hymns. Her faith kept her going and saw her through. After her death, a family friend remarked that she had been a saintly woman. How fortunate we, her children, were to have such a beautiful mother.
