Laura Ruth Vice

Laura was born into the family of Ina and Harley Baughn on January 10, 1922. She spent her childhood with her devoted brother, Vernon and her loving sister, Helen near Linton, Indiana. In 1935 the family moved to Clay City, Indiana where her father was employed with the strip mines. Laura met Gerald Vice at the Clay City Church of Christ where they both attended. Their first date was a church get-together. They both graduated from Clay City High School. Gerald attended Rose Poly Institute and driving a truck at the strip mines, when the bomb was dropped on Pearl Harbor. He was inducted into the army on December 29, 1941. He spent the next three years in combat without leave. Laura waited through the duration living for his mail and working at the Clay City County Treasurer's office. Finally, on July 31, 1945, Gerald received his long awaited discharge. On March 29, 1947, Laura and Gerald were married and made their home in Indianapolis, Indiana. Gerald was employed as a tool and die maker. Laura worked as a secretary and bookkeeper. On July 27, 1948, they were blessed with w devoted daughter, Nancy. Their beautiful granddaughter, Amy was born November 30, 1974, and she became a great source of joy. In time Amy gave them a great grandson, Justin, born May 2, 1994 that made the family complete and filled their lives with even more happiness. Laura and Gerald have been active members of the Franklin Road Church of Christ for 41 years and have lived a lifelong commitment to God. Laura's love and Christian example has been felt the world around with the hundreds of lived she has touched through World Bible School. She and Gerald continue to support children through the Christian Relief Fund, Herald of Truth, and many other charitable organizations. In return our Savior has blessed them with 56 wonderful years together that they have shared with family and friends. Through out the years a disease called polycythemia had compromised Laura's health. Over a period of about 49 years slowly destroyed all her major organs resulting in her being on dialysis for the 6 years prior, leading to cardiac arrest. Though her body weakened her spirit never faded.These few words are brief synopses of the life of this beautiful woman, but there are no words that can describe the depth of her love for her family and friends, and the depth of our love for her. Even when she was physically too weak to go on, she gave strength and encouragement to everyone around her. She showed us the meaning of God's love by her commitment to her husband, beloved family, church, and friends. Her steadfast example has been a great source of strength; and her love for us will always be a secure haven in life's storms. She will be remembered, loved, and missed forever. Now we must give her back to our Creator, but because of Jesus and her faith in Him, which she has passed on to us, we look forward to meeting her again in Heaven.
