Josephine Marie Bisesi Romano

January 13, 1917 — February 12, 2002

From the beginning, she was such a beautiful little girl her family gave her the nickname "Doll". This stayed with her for the rest of her life.As a young girl, she liked to play ball with the boys in the alley behind her home. Her mother, Santa, would call her in just before her father was expected home because he would not approve of her playing ball. It wasn't lady-like. Needless to say, this didn't stop her.She lived more comfortable than most when she was a young adult. Her father, Paul Bisesi, owned and operated a produce commission house. She had more, which meant she could give more. Something she was always driven to do.There were six siblings, three boys and three girls, including "Doll" the third youngest. She married John Leonard Romano, on June 28, 1937, and of this union came Marie Ann and John Michael.Josephine was a very loving, caring and giving individual to family, friends and even an occasional stranger. During the time of the Great Depression, she was known for being generous with food with strangers that would happen across her door. She enjoyed cooking, especially for the accolades that always seemed to follow her efforts. Over the years she worked for LaScala Italian Restaurant, Sister' Restaurant and Primo Catering until she retired in 1994.She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed discussing sports with anyone who was enthusiastic as she. A typical evening for her would include a call to her grandchildren to see if they were watching a particularly exciting game.Josephine was a very independent, strong-willed lady beyond her time. She was a gentle lady who cared deeply for her family more than anything else in her life. Her energy, enthusiasm and love for her grandchildren was one of her many qualities that will always be remembered. Her life was full of love from all those fortunate enough to have known her. She touched the lives of people of all ages. She had great empathy for those who had less than she did. She shared all she had and never wanted anything in return. Now God is the lucky one. He gets to enjoy her meatballs and the stories of her family. He will have his hands full with her. She is still full of life and will be for a long, long time.
