John Melvin Young

August 10, 1902 — February 26, 1937

John M. Young son of Horace Greeley Young and Lucine Bell Phipps was born in Indianapolis, IN 1902. He was 5 years old when his mother died from TB. 4 boys and 1 baby girl, Catherine was left in 1907.Lucine was buried in Bloomfield, IN. Catherine was adopted and the boys were with friends and neighbors after their father Horace died in1 911. John Young met Mildred E. Showers in a Southside neighborhood and they eloped to Louisville, KY on March 4, 1919. 7 children were born to John and Mildred.John was an electrician and traveled south looking for work, in the 1920's. 3 children were born in the south 1 son and 2 daughters. In 1933 the family went back to Indianapolis, their car was stolen, so they sold things to return. In 1937 John took son John Jr. to go for work in Southern Indiana and on February 26, his Essex auto went off the road, and he was fatally injured in Edinburg, Indiana.
