Homer Logan Wells

Homer Logan Wells was born and grew up on a farm in Henryville, Clark County, Indiana where he learned to fish and hunt, lifelong passions. He valued the fulfilment of a long day's work, and he treasured his family and friends. As a boy, he loved watching the railroad as it passed through little town of Henryville, and he dreamed of all the destinations possible on those tracks. Eventually he became a fireman and then a locomotive engineer on the Pennsylvania Railroad. He married Jennie Smallwood on October 24, 1906, and they had their first son Joseph on August 1, 1907. By 1911, they moved from Henryville to Indianapolis where they added twin boys named Max and Wayne to their family on October 3, 1912 . The family lived next to East Park Methodist Church and sang hymns around the piano in their parlor daily. In 1927, Homer lost his beloved wife Jennie shortly after the birth of their only daughter Mary Lou. By 1930, Homer expanded his family to include a new wife, Ruth Lingle Crist, and her son John; and they all continued to live at 245 North Temple in Indianapolis. In October, 1949, he retired with 40 years of service on the Pennsylvania Railroad. He enjoyed visiting his relatives in southern Indiana and his summer home on Lake Freeman in northern Indiana where his family gathered to boat and fish on long, lazy summer days. Homer was a member of the Englewood Masonic Lodge No. 715 and of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen. He was the proud and loving grandfather of six grandchildren.
