Freeman B. Ransom

d. August 6, 1947

During Freeman's 37 years as an attorney in Indianapolis, he had been active in the Democratic Party, in Flanner House, the YMCA and other civic work. He served as City County Councilman and was on Mayor R. H. Tyndall's Committee on Race Relations. He was on the Board of Trustees of the Indiana State School for the Blind and a treasurer of the school. He was a trustee of Bethel AME Church. He was a member of the budget committee of the Community Fund and draft board in WW 2. He was born in Grenada, Mississippi. He came to Indianapolis in 1910. He was a graduate of Walden University Law School in Nashville, Tennessee. He took additional law studies at Columbia University. In 1918, he became General Manager of Madame C. J. Walker Manufacturing Company and held that position until his death. He was a member of American Bar Association, Marion County Bar Association, National Negro Business League, Kappa Alpha PSI Fraternity, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Indianapolis Rod and Gun Club.
