Evelyn E. Dawson

May 14, 1926 — November 25, 2005

Evie was a good wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked for L.S. Ayres Co until 1952 when our first-born son arrived. She became a stay at home mom. She was a great cook and had all the family in for all occasions. Through the years she worked with the youth fellowship at Brookside EUB Church and later when our two sons were in their teens she found time to manage two bands. One Country Band the ”Wabash Valley Boys” and a Dance Band the “Sensationals” for about 5 years. She had a miniature pincher dog “Tassy”. She loved Tassy, who lived for 19 years, dying in 1985. Evie was an avid reader of romance novels, magazines, and the newspaper. When she had her first stroke in 1999 while on vacation in Naples, FL she could no longer read. Jim got her a talking book from the Central Library. Evie had a great relationship with God. She talked to her sons about God. Jim remembers all through their youth the boys sat with them in the same upfront pew in the sanctuary every Sunday morning. They were perfect little gentlemen through the service. Evie took care of the house, boys and their school functions, etc. For Jim was out of town a lot during his 52 years in construction business and architecture. Jim retired in 1999 after Evie suffered her stroke. Jim was her caregiver until she passed away for 6 years. You never know God’s plan for us but he knows what’s best for us. I will forever be grateful for God putting us together in high school in 1942 and all the years we had together. I will forever miss Evie as we were married 59 ½ years. Her favorite song was by Mel Carter “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me” (Never Let Me Go). Evie was without a doubt the most thoughtful, loving, forgiving, considerate, compassionate, uncomplaining wife a man could have. Never be the same without her. I know she is now in her eternal home a much better place. Thank God for now she is not suffering and in no pain anymore. I know I will see her again someday and hope she is waiting for her Jim. 1969 Dear Jim, I will pray that God may be at your side, and that our love for each other, and your love for our sons whom God saw the grace to let me bear in your name, help you to understand the power love can give one and other, that some people can never begin to understand or never find in their life time. Let this be your strength in the days to come, my love, and may we share our love together for the rest of our lives, let it also be guidance for our sons future lives. Your Evie forever and always.
