He was the fifth child of Carlos H. Wright of Loogootee, Indiana and Delph Brown of Sholes, Indiana. He was raised on Indianapolis along with his siblings, Paul Wright, Juanita Clark, Charles Wright, William Wright, David Wright and Delia Daniels. He married our mother, Laura M. Rogers on November 21, 1933 in Indianapolis. Our father and mother had 12 children. Carl Wright was in WW2 and he was in Germany and France. He was a good man; he served our country while he had six children at home. His love for music started early in his life at around 3 years old. He would take his Grandpa, Chris Wright's fiddle out and try to play and he became a great fiddle player. He also played guitar, bass, mandolin and piano. He would play the upright bass, spin it around, and never miss a beat. He was a good entertainer, he loved to sing, and he loved his Bluegrass, Gospel and Western Swing. I heard him also sing the Blues and Jazz. He was in the group the Utah Trailors with Ace Bailey, his son, Dick Bailey and Bill was he bass player. The group joined up with the WIBC Jamboree starring Jimmy Dickens. They played on the radio. Later he formed his own group called Smokey Bill and the Swinging Hillbilly's (in his days of the radio Jimmy Dickens called him Smokey Joe.) and they were very good and played many fairs, festivals and clubs all over Indiana and other states. His last performance was at the fair in Mooresville, Indiana were he had played for the last 15 or 16 years.Besides being a great musician he was a good father, he would play music, work a full-time job, he always would remind us to say our prayer and give thanks to Our Father in Heaven and to remember who we are. He taught us to keep our morals. He was a happy man and never knew a stranger. I can see why our mother loved him so much. When we were children at home on the weekends he's play music with family and friends. Mother would cook a big meal and we would dance and have a big time. But our father has gone home with mother now and I am sure their happy. We will always keep his memory locked in our hearts and all he and mother taught us.Thank you and God Bless,Susan Smith
