Anna May Smith Jacobs

February 13, 1919 — April 28, 2005

Anna May Smith was born on February 13,1919 in Mitchell, Indiana. She was the eldest daughter of Harley Smith Sr. and Edith Marie Pipher. She had 5 siblings, Phillip, Richard, Harley Jr. Veragene and Betty. She became Mrs. Joseph E. Jacobs after meeting and marrying the love of her life.Anna devoted her life to being a wife and mother to her beautiful children, Don Timothy, Donna Ann, Barbara Jean, Marilyn Sue, Patricia Lee, Joseph Edmon Jr., Debra Rose and Julia Diane. Her greatest joy was taking care of her family and home. She was a great cook and most Sundays were spent gathered around her dinner table eating, talking and laughing together. It was common for all of us girls to end up on Mom's bed and lay around having "girl talk" on a lazy afternoon. We would laugh and share stories, ideas or discuss problems we may have had. Mom always welcomed us and was usually the one to initiate these bonding sessions. Mom didn't mind a bit if we looked at her jewelry and tried things on. She loved being with us. She was very generous and you rarely left her house without her giving you something. One of the greatest loves of her life was her dear mother, Edith. She adored her precious mother. They were best friends and spent countless hours together. Going shopping, to garage sales, cooking, gardening or just watching tv. They were inseparable. Losing her Mom was a great loss to her. But, she immersed herself in the love of her children and grandchildren and was blessed to have many and she adored them all, as they did her, Victoria, Ricky, Heather, Jennifer, Darla, Cara, Leigh, Jeffrey, Jane, Timothy, Sherry, Shelly, Raymond, Tricia, Joshua, Jill, Joseph, Jamaica and Justin. Her home was rarely a quiet place and that is just the way she liked it. She had a fantastic sense of humor and was outgoing and fun to be with.In her later years she loved watching the Indiana Pacer's play basketball on tv, driving her little red Subaru and shopping on QVC.She is greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. We take comfort in knowing she had a long and a happy life and is now layed to rest beside her true love Joe.Her carrot cake was always necessary at any family get together and the recipe was always requested by newcomers, we are including it here for all to enjoy.
