William Kenneth Wheatley

Birth Date: 3/9/1916
Death Date: 9/18/1998
Hamilton Memorial Park Cemetery
Section E, Lot 2, Grave 1

Born in Ilkeston, England, Ken immigrated with his parents, John and Addy Wheatley, to the United States in 1924. The Christian example and spiritual influence of his parents led to his conversion at the age of 14. In later years, responding to God's call, he committed his life to Salvation Army Officership and was ordained into the Christian ministry in June 1940. In 1942 he married Barbara Helen Minkittrick who was also a Salvation Army Officer. Unwavering in his faith, unswerving in his commitment, uncompromising in his principles, this Servant of God left a legacy of love and faith, reflected in his journey through life. He had high expectations for himself and of others; his strength as a leader was tempered by his sensitive concern for the needs of others; his love for his family was deep and tender; and his devotion to God was unmistakable.

For many years, the Wheatley's favorite vacation spot was Myrtle Beach, SC where Ken enjoyed fishing and relaxing on the beach with Barbara and friends. Here he proudly shows his "good catch"-1971.

Retiring in 1979, the Wheatleys took up residence at the legendary "On Top of The World" in Clearwater, FL. Their retirement home was in this condo at OTOW.

In 1992, Ken and Barbara celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Clearwater, FL with all of their family coming together to share this milestone.
