| Joe was born in Putnamville, Indiana on January 23, 1916 to Joseph A. & Martha Jane Cocknour Nicely. He married Arlene Thomas on June 17, 1939. Joe & Arlene had one daughter, Charlene, born on July 21, 1940. Joe was employed for 29 years as an electrician at Detroit Diesel Allison, Division of General Motors Corporation. He was a member of United Auto Workers Union, Local 933, and the Moose Lodge #17. Joe served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of W.W.II and served most of his time in Germany. His twin grandsons, Joseph S. & Jeffrey A. Byrd were the highlight of his life. He enjoyed taking them fishing, no matter how many times he had to get their lines untangled. |
