How do I summarize a life of 78 yrs., the only mother I've ever known for 45 of my years in one page? To my mom, family, friends and faith always come first. She modeled and taught me to love and care for each other, for friends God gives us and for our Lord. Our vacations to Arkansas & California strengthened family bonds, as did holidays, special events and reunions with those in town. She & dad demonstrated their commitment to the Lord and the Lord's church by involvement in every area from playing piano for the services, to serving and planning meals for friends in the Loyal Mothers Class, to preparing communion, to writing cards and notes after her stroke in 1978 and heart surgery in 1981. Her devotion to me led her to return to work when I was in high school to help pay my college tuition. Her dedication was shown in simple things like fried chicken & butterscotch pie, a simple bowl of ice cream with chocolate syrup and a chat after school, numerous shopping trips and countless letters, phone calls and prayers in which she always expressed and lived mother's love. I'm forever grateful that she was mine. In later years friends often commented to me that they couldn't imagine mom without dad or vice versa. Of course, I'd only known them together. Through 55 years of marriage, from the W.W.II to health and physical challenges in later years, they grew to depend on each other deeply and their love endured as did their faith. They now share Victory in Christ.

Older brothers Howard & Harold were always protective of little sister, Doris. This is at the family home 26 N. Tacoma, from her birth on 9/27/1914.

Doris attended Elementary School #3 and graduated from Tech High School in 1933.

Doris married Edgar F. Ashcraft on 6/20/1937 at her parent's home. Their first home was an apartment in the 1200 block of East Washington Street. They met at Englewood Christian Church and attended there many years.

They enjoyed vacations like this one in the Smokies with Doris and her mother, Lena Kitchell Craig. Doris worked in offices at L.S. Ayres after marriage and during the war.

Doris & Ed gained a son when Phyllis married Larry (Lauren) Girdwood, minister in Christian churches in 1972.

Doris & Ed welcomed their first grandchild on 8/13/1976 when David Andrew was born. Later Michael Paul arrived, 6/20/1979, on his grandparent's 42nd anniversary.

Doris & Ed celebrate their 50th anniversary on 6/20/1987 at Post Rd. Christian Church with Phyllis & Larry, David & Mike.

Doris & Ed enjoyed the celebration with friends and family including her brothers, Harold & Howard.
