Harry was born near Andover, KS. When he was 6 yrs. old he moved to Ringwood,OK in a covered wagon. The Oklahoma Territory had been opened and they were headed for a claim established by two brothers, Charlie and Oren. These brothers were in the land race for homesteads when the Cherokee Strip was opened in 1893. Harry went to a one-room school. In 1907 Harry attended a Teacher's Institute and passed the teachers examination before turning sixteen. He taught school 2 or 3 years. He moved to California and worked in a logging camp. In 1917 he enlisted in the Army. After WW-I he became a banker. He was a great storyteller of exciting times in his earlier years. |
