Mydella Rose

Birth Date: January 6, 1929
Death Date: February 6, 1997
Washigton Park East Cemetery
1st President - E9 - Level 4 # 141D

Mydella Rose Barkman (Weber) was born January 6, 1929 in Medora, Indiana, Jackson County to Charles Barkman and Mertle Hattabaugh (Barkman). She was one of 11 children. Mydella graduated from Medora High School on May 8, 1946. Mom came to Indianapolis and lived with Jane Harger, her sister on Brookside Avenue. She arrived with $11.00 and the love of God and her family. She worked as a legal assistant for the state of Indianan. Mom met Lester Weber one morning at a restaurant her sister worked at. They were married on September 20, 1947 at New York Street Methodist Church in Indianapolis. Mom had three children. She stayed at home to raise us until March 1960. Mom went to work for Community East Hospital on Ritter. She started in Accounting and ended an Administrator for the Hospital helping to start Community North Hospital and Med Check downtown Indianapolis. Mom had many health problems, she overcame. She was the lady of dad’s eye. She was a wonderful wife, best mother anybody could have had. She was smart, beautiful, and talented and was the very best at anything she did. She loved her family more than life its self. Mom was so strong in her belief about God she carried the rest of us over the hard places in life. She showed us strength in faith. She was active in the Lutheran church. She worked at the Sharing Place on Ritter Avenue as well Lutherwood Home for Children. She loved dad, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren more than they will ever know. Mom lived through the great depression and WWII. I remember her saying she stood on Monument Circle and kissed everyone the day WWII ended. Mom and dad were married 50 years before she passed away on February 2, 1997. She once told me that the Lord was her strength in life, hold to Him in all things.
