Lester Edward Weber was born in Decatur County, Greensburg, Indiana to Chris Weber and Carrie Bussberg on January 4, 1924. He graduated from Sandusky High School in 1942. He entered U.S. Army on March 11, 1943 and was separated January 25, 1946 at Camp Attebury, Indiana. Dad went to England and invaded France on D-Day at Normandy. Dad had his picture taken under Frances’s Arc of Triomphe after they liberated it. Dad was in 3 major battles with G.S. Patton. The 84th Inf. Div. replaced the 82 Air Born in Berlin on September 2, 1946, they had walked across Europe fighting every step of the way in the worst winter in a hundred years. He received EAME Theater Ribbon, 3 Bronze Stars, and G.C.M. & Victory Medal WWII. He married Mydella Rose Barkman on September 20, 1947. He lived in Indianapolis all of his remaining life except for 5 years in Rural Hancock County, Spring Lake, Indiana. Dad loved his wife Dell dearly for 50 years of marriage. Dad was a farmer, Meat Cutter and Engineer for Indianapolis Public Schools. He was a horseman all his life and a farmer at heart. Dad was a member of the Lutheran Church all his life and served on Church Councils at several Churches. He was active in Boy Scouts for many years. He loved his children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren more than they will ever know. His faith was in the Lord all his life. He lived through the great depression and WWII. He could still smile and laugh at life and knew God was in charge. He passed away July 21, 2003. He was the bravest and strongest man I have ever known, he kept his faith in God right to his last breath. He helped rescue the Lippazan Horses with Gen. Patton. He loved to hunt and fish. He loved coffee, Miller Beer and Bologna Horseradish sandwiches. |
