She was a busy mother of 5 with 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was married to Joseph Orville Strough for over 50 years until his death in 1970. She gave birth to all of her children at their home on 2138 North Bosart Avenue in Indianapolis, IN.
She worked as a cook and supervisor for the Indianapolis Public Schools for 20 years while also being self employeed as a beautician where she had a shop in her home.
She enjoyed traveling to Florida with her husband and after his death would retire there with her youngest daughter, Sallie. Later moving back to Indiana where she would spend her last years in Greencastle Nursing Home.
