Henry Wilbur Gardner

Birth Date: 12/02/1910
Death Date: 01/28/1969
Washington Park East Cemtery
Obelesk Ct., Section Q, Row 4, Crypt 45

Harry was a very kind and gentle man, small in stature and very handsome. Living in Indianapolis and working most of his life as a finishing carpenter building cabinets, counter tops and laying tile flooring. He was quit an artist and made beautiful mosaics from tile or wood for both floors and walls. He did a lot of the public buildings in downtown Indianapolis and private homes. A few of these including the Post Office, State Museum, Art Museum, The Murat Temple, & Governors Mansion.

Known to everyone as Frog because of the way he always squatted on the floor, like a frog, instead of sitting. This was second nature to him after spending so many hours installing floors.

His favorite past times were his great love fishing and making beautiful doll furniture for his granddaughters. And putting all the finishing touches on the homes he helped his son-in-law build on Indiana Lake.

After fighting a successful battle against alcoholism he was always seen with a bottle of Coke a Cola in his hand, which he would refer to as his beer.

He was always seen with his best friend and buddy, his grandson, Rex Strough. He taught him everything from how to catch the big one, to being able to transform a piece of wood into something beautiful.

He put up a long and hard fight against cancer before passing away at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis, IN at the age of 58.
