Betty Jean Cook Imhausen

Born January 15, 1933, Betty was the daughter of Anna and Robert Cook. Betty had six sisters and two brothers. She was born and raised in Stringtown.

Betty had one daughter, Margie, who married John Lawson and had two kids. Her grandkids Jerry and Donna were her pride and joy. She was close to her two nephews Junior and Donald and her niece Violet Lynn. They could do no wrong. Betty married Curly Rhodes in 1951. They lived in Panama City for a while. Mom and I came back to Indianapolis on a bus in 1953. When they got a divorce, Mom and I lived with Grandma, Raymond, Sandy, Sue, and Junior. We were all close. When I was two, Mom started dating Billy Imhausen. They dated for twenty years before they got married on June 9, 1973.
Betty was a night owl. She stayed up late watching the Late Show. Betty always had a cigarette in one hand and a Pepsi in the other.
Mom was in a lot of pain the last few years of her life from her cancer. Mom had more courage than any woman I have ever known.

Mom,
When you went to heaven I was scared. I know you were the one person I could always count on no matter what. I wish you could have been here when Donna and Jerry got older. You would be so proud. Mom, you have two great-grandsons, Bradley and Stephen. You would have spoiled them rotten. Life has been good; the only thing that could have made it better is if you had been here with us. Mom, I want you to know I love you and always will. Nobody can ever take your place because you are my Mom.

Love you,
Your Daughter,
Marjorie

My Grandma was a straightforward woman; she would tell it like it is. Just like a sword that has two edges, one was smooth, the other was sharp, and you decided which one to have. I miss my Grandma very much and wonder what she would be like today. I’m sure she would bring a lot of happiness, love, and joy in our lives, like she did when she was with us.

Love,
Jerry

My Grandma was a great woman. I will always remember staying all night with her and Billy – staying up late and eating store-bought cookies (my Grandma didn’t cook very much).
Grandma, I wish you were here with us. You were the best.
Miss you and love you,

Donna Sue
