Claude Herman Livesay was born on June 29, 1927 in Blackwater, Virginia. He was the eldest son of Minnie Mae Livesay and stepfather Bruce Link Jones. He had three siblings, Mary, Charlie and Bobby.

He met and married the love of his life, Minnie Alma Ball, on November 17, 1951. He was a devoted husband and father to his four children, Sandra Kaye, Claude Herman Jr., Donald Raye and Mark Allen.

His interests included working on automobiles and woodworking. He also enjoyed playing with the Rubik’s Cube. He would give it to one of his kids and say “go ahead, mess it up.” When we gave it back, he would solve it again within five minutes. He also liked watching HeeHaw on Saturday nights.

He was employed by the Kingsport Times-News from 1943 until 1953 at which time he moved to Knoxville and worked for the Knoxville Sentinel. He moved to Indianapolis in 1958 and worked for the Indianapolis Star-News. He retired in 1981. He was a member go the International Typographical Union, Kingsport Mailers Union #151 and the Indianapolis Mailers Union #10.

Dad lost his fight with cancer on June 7, 1984 after a lengthy illness.

Daddy

Daddy, I’ll always love you so,
Much more than you will ever know;
Your body's all went from the tears that I’ve cried,
Daddy it’s hard to say goodbye.

You know that we bonded from the start,
And you’ll always own a piece of my heart;
No greater companion will there ever be,
I’ll always remember what you meant to me.

You looked at me with such love in your eyes,
And when I was down you were right by my side;
I just can’t imagine my life without you,
Everything that I’ve told you is true.

Someday we’ll be together again,
I know that I’ll find you, for you’re my best friend.
Soon I know that your pain will be gone,
And you won’t have to just linger on.

As the nurse shook her head
And your body was still
I cried like a baby
And I always will.

Daddy, I’ll always love you so.
Much more than you will ever know,
Your body’s all wet from the tears I’ve just cried,
Daddy, it’s so hard to say goodbye.

Daddy, I’ll always love you.
