Sylvia A. Amos On February 22, 1920, Sylvia Athelda, one of 14 children, was born to Sam and Eliza Routh in Port Gibson, Mississippi. Sylvia was an active young woman who loved animals and enjoyed horseback riding. She was educated in the local Port Gibson school system. With a love of education, she continued to learn, taking many courses throughout her active adult life. A people person, Sylvia held many jobs and pursued many activites such as flower arranging, sewing, cooking and hatmaking, but she always put her family first. Sylvia loved the Lord. She was a long standing member of Grace Apostolic Church and was active in such roles as the Nursing Guild, the Missionary Society, Youth Group advisor and Sunday School teacher. Sylvia, or "Tibbee" as she was affectionately known by her family, was the last of her generation. She also was preceded in death by one of her daughters, Ella (Noah) Nicholson in 2000. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Theodore D. Amos, and her children Shirley Faye (Charles) Queen, Gwendolyn Boyd, Theodora (Jerome) Williams, Denise (Timothy) Carpenter, Mark (Dana) Amos, 13 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
