Vera was a very active ninety-three years old with a deep and abiding faith in the Lord. She was deeply loved by all who knew her.

She was a member of the Lawrence United Methodist Church, and also attended Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church, Phi Delta Pi Theta Chapter, Millersville Order of the Eastern Star, Welcome Rebeckah Lodge, Past Noble Grands of the Rebekah Lodge, Quincy Club, Travel Study Club, Nealites, Comforters, and a volunteer for IPS.

In 1993, she won the Sertoma volunteer of the year award for the tri-state area. She was also a former Lawrence Senior Citizens Queen.

Vera really loved basketball. She was on girl's basketball team and cheerleader at Quincy High School. All throughout her life, she was a huge Indiana University basketball fan. Later she became even a bigger Pacers fan. She would never answer her phone if either of these two teams were playing on TV. She even was known as a "golden girl" when she and two of her friends would come to watch her grandsons, Gabriel and Nathaniel play basketball at Mt. Vernon High School.

Days of Our Lives, was her favorite soap opera. She never missed a program. She went on a jet for the first time to Las Vegas when she was eighty. Her son Stanley and daughter-in-law, Mary planned the trip and went with her. Her daughter took her out to eat every Sunday to her favorite places; Holly Hock Hill, Forbidden City or Dodd Townhouse.

Vera loved wearing bright colored clothes, especially red. She always painted her toenails and fingernails. She wouldn't go out without earrings and lots of other jewelry. She had her own ideas about things and was a good Democrat. Evan Bayh was a cousin whom she talked with when he was Governor and senator of Indiana. She enjoyed going on bus trips with the Nealities church group. She lived in her own home until she was 93 and only lived with her daughter, Debbie and son-in-law, Larry for five months. There she ate big meals and her favorite food, ice cream. Her cat Fluffy really misses her, as does everyone else.
