Harlan E. Hicks

Harlan E. Hicks was born at home in Montgomery County. His family moved to Indianapolis for work in 1929. He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1930. He was one of 2 students asked to assist Milo Stuart in signing all of the diplomas. He received a Rector Scholarship to Depauw. Before Harlan he went to work at the Post Office he worked for Bemis Bag and A&P. In the 30's he was a member of the Knight's Chess Club, Indianapolis Photographic Club and the Adventure Club of the YMCA. He also wrote some for publication under the name of Tyro.On one of these trips with the YMCA he met Helen Brockman and they were married in 1940.He was very interested in genealogy and we spent most vacations in courthouses and cemeteries in Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia and Virginia.He was a member of SAR, Murat Shriner, Scottish Rite, NARFE, The Craft Club, Zion Church Board and Sunday School Superintendent for many years.
