Carl Thomas Oberlies, Sr. was born in Cicero, Indiana on September 7, 1890. He was the youngest of nine children. When he was 8 years old he would go to the local barbershop, after school, and carry water for the Public Baths. A job like this was hard work for a boy so young. This gave him a foot in the door for a career that he would follow for the rest of his life.

On April 10, 1910 he married Mary Martina Dane of Noblesville, Indiana. Their marriage lasted over 6 decades. They had 2 children, Mary and Tom Jr., also 2 stillborn boys. Later giving them 4 granddaughters (Tom's daughters).

After retiring from the barbershop, he still cut hair for family and friends in his overstuffed barber chair he had in his basement. He loved to watch his soap opera's and eat on TV trays in front of the TV.

He was always a snappy dresser, with his suit, hat and ties for every season.

He is greatly missed.
