John Richard Hashagen lived his early days in Sunman, Indiana. He worked hard and gave his free time to helping others. He was a volunteer Fire Fighter and helped anyone who needed help.
Shortly after marrying Mary Francis Oberlies on February 1, 1942 he went into the Army. He served during WW2 in a support unit. The support units were the backbone of the military. After the war he worked at various occupations. He finally settled into the job of stevedore.
He continued to help others in need, all his life. He was quiet spoken and had a heart as large as all outdoors. He was loved and admired by all who knew him. His family and many others miss him greatly.
As Will Rogers said, "He never met a stranger he didn't like".
