Uncle Les was a very loving and caring man. He was a quiet person. His family meant a lot to him. He was never judge mental of others, he accepted them for who they were, not where they came from.He boxed in the Golden Gloves in 1937. When war broke out in 1941 he served as a Pvt. 1st Class in the Army in the European Theater. After coming home, he met Hazel Gibson. They were married for only a couple of years before she passed away in 1948 of TB. Later he met Venus Fleming. They were married several years before divorcing. They got back together and had made plans just before his death to remarry.Uncle Les enjoyed fishing and hunting trips with my dad, Ellis Miles. He retired from B&O Railroad and later bought Conolty's Tavern at the corner of Walnut and King Streets. While he was retired he worked part-time at Bush Stadium Baseball field. After he sold the bar he had come to live with Grandma down the street from us. I would cut my dates short on Friday nights. So Uncle Les and me could watch 'Sammy Terry' on channel 4. We had so much fun watching the mummy and all the others. It's been 34 years now. But it seems like yesterday. All his brothers are gone now. There's just Betty, my mom now. And we both still miss him.
