Robert JW Kinzel, M.D. Died June 8, 2004. He was born on Nov. 16, 1912 in Indianapolis. He attended Warren Central High School and graduated in 1929. He then went on to Butler University for the years of 1929 until 1930, when he made the change to Indiana University from 1930-1935. Robert received his B.S. Degree in 1933 and his M.D. in 1935. He completed his internship at the Lewla Y. Post Montgomery Hospital in Battle Creek Michigan from 1935-1936. His surgical residency was also completed at this hospital from 1936 until 1937. He went into General Practices in Battle Creek Michigan and Litchfield Michigan from 1937 until 1941. Dr. Kinzel served as a Captain in World War II from 1941-1946 with the 165th Station Hospital, mostly in the Southwest Pacific, ending with the liberation of the Philippine Islands. For a total of 3 years and 7 months he served our country at wartime.

Dr. Kinzel finished orthopedic training at Riley Hospital at the I.U. Medical Center in 1949. He received his Diplorate of American Board of Orthopedic Surgery in 1950 and became a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery. He was a former member of the Marion County Medical Society, Indiana State Medical Society, Indianapolis Surgical Society, Indiana Orthopedic Society, American Medical Association and the Phi Beta Pi Medical Fraternity. He was, as well, Emeritus Professor of Clinical Orthopedics at Riley Hospital and formerly on orthopedic staffs of Community Hospital, Methodist Hospital, St. Vincent's Hospital and Riley Hospital. Dr. Kinzel and his family were founding members of St. Alban's Episcopal Church, where he attended faithfully until his death.

His son, Robert J. Kinzel, Jr.; daughter, Mickey Whitman; 9 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren survive him. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie (Hall) Kinzel in 1994.

Anon Funeral services will be held at 11:45 a.m. Friday, June 11 in St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 4601 N. Emerson with viewing from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Family asks that donations may be made in Dr. Kinzel's memory to St. Alban's Episcopal Church. Arrangements entrusted to Legacy Funeral Alternatives at Memorial Park.
