Margaret Elizabeth, Walker Clapp 93, Indianapolis, passed away Feb. 11, 2003. Mrs. Clapp was born on March 7, 1909 in Indianapolis, to James Abram Garfield and Ethel Olivia (Kitson) Walker. She was an English teacher at Tech High School for many years, from which she was a graduate. Margaret was the widow of Leland Quayle Clapp and a member of Irvington United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Butler University and the Arthur Jordan Conservatory of Music. She directed choirs for many different age groups. Leland and Margaret celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on June 10, 1984. Survivors include her sons David Leland and Thomas Walker Clapp and five grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Martha Louise (Walker) Lantz. Mrs. Clapp was very active in a number of local organizations, most notably her church, where she directed choirs of all ages. She was also involved in the Irvington Garden Club, Travel Study Club, Tech Alumni Association and the Benton House Assn. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, at Shirley Brothers East Washington. Services will be held at E. 91st Street Christian Church at 1 p.m. on Friday, with burial following at Washington Park East. Memorial contributions may be made to E. 91st Street Christian Church in her name.
