Samuel Patrick Archino

Sam's mother died when he was five years old. His father took off leaving five children behind. Cy, the oldest was 16 and joined the Navy. Lena was 14 and went out to work. Tommy and Sam were 7 and 5 respectively and were sent to a Catholic orphanage until they were turned out at 14. Sam carried papers to survive and slept on park benches. He served in the Army during WW2 and was captured in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a POW for over a year and road out of Germany on a Russian tank. After he and Martha were married they lived first in Washington D.C., then moved to Indianapolis where Sam worked for PR Mallory. They transferred him and his family to Philadelphia in 1955 where they stayed until 1965, moving back to Indianapolis. Sam had a heart attack while in Philadelphia for Ann's college graduation.

Sam loved the ocean. He is 21 here and probably at the Jersey Shore in 1939.

Sam is 2nd from the right. He was with Philadelphia Bronze & Brass Co. as Treasurer from 1955-1965. This was a meeting of the offcers of the company. 1960.



Sam playing badmitton in the backyard in Indianapolis, He also liked croquet and horseshoes. He would play with the family all through our growing up years. 1966.



Sam in San Francisco on the last leg of his and Martha's big trip to Hawaii. They had a wonderful trip. 1969.
