I can't help But smile when I think of Bob, he is my soul mate and I miss him very much. I didn't believe in fairy tales until I met Bob, he was my Prince Charming with a heart made of gold. Bob was a good person, kind, gentle and strong. If you were in need and he could help he would. My life forever changed when I met Bob, he made me a better person. Here is his story.Bob was born in Ballinger, Texas on November 18, 1955 as Bobby Glenn Butler, he and his oldest sister Kate share the same birthday. She was seven years older. Bob was the fifth child and first son of Landon Merrick Butler of Texas and Dorothy May Gallamore Butler of Indiana. Both of Bob's parents are deceased, he had 6 sisters and 2 brothers. Bob died at home on March 31, 1998 from an occupational lung disease. He was ill about 4 years. Because of the death of his father when he was a young boy, Bob's mother moved back to Spencer, Indiana to be near her own family. Bob's grandfather Guy William Gallamore was a great influence in his life. Teaching Bob how to fish and make his own bait was one of Bob's fondest memories of his grandfather. Every chance Bob got to fish he would as that was his favorite hobby. The death of his grandfather was very hard for Bob. Bob's mother moved to Indianapolis after the death of his grandfather in 1966 thinking it would be better for her children. Bob went to elementary IPS # 22 and George Washington High School, dropping out in the tenth grade as he said he was not book smart but had a lot of common sense. Bob met Osla Marie Weekley; they married during the summer of 1975 and divorced in the fall of 1991. Out of that marriage Bob had three sons. First Guy William Butler born May 4, 1976 named after his grandfather. Bob always said the happiest moment in his life was the birth of Guy. The second son is Bobby Glenn Butler, Jr. born February 24, 1979 and named after Bob. The third is David Landon Butler born March 3, 1980 named after Bob's best friend David and Landon for Bob's father. Bob's family used to tell him he was like a mother hen protecting and looking after her chicks. Bob and I got together in 1991. I was Bob's second wife Darlene Susan Long. We married July 6, 1995. At the end of July we found out we would be parents. My first and only child, Bob's fourth and last son is Jerry Long.At this time we knew Bob was terminally ill and he told everyone God didn't want me to be alone again that is why God blessed us with the birth of Jerry Allan Long on January 1, 1996.Bob gave my father a special gift naming our son completely after my father. Bob did this because there were no grandchildren on my side of the family with the last name Long and he had 3 other sons to carry on the Butler name. Bobby Jr. has a son. David has two children a son named David Landon Butler Jr. born January 29, 1999 and a daughter Pasha Leigh Butler born March 27, 2001 and one on the way. Soon making Bob have four grandchildren. Family was very important to Bob and he was a good father always putting the needs of his children first. Bob was proud of his boys and hoped they would have a better life than he did, as all parents wish for. The day Guy William got his certificate of Completion in June 1995 Bob's pride lit up the whole room. Everyone always said Bobby was just like his dad and Bob was very proud of him. Oh and the day we went to IPS # 14 for open house David was in the fifth grade Bob could not stop grinning from ear to ear when he seen the short story David had wrote (My Dad). Jerry was Bob's joy in the last years of his life. Each of Bob's sons had their own special place in his heart and he loved them more than life its self.Bob's favorite holiday was the 4th of July. I never knew one person could set off so many fireworks. His next favorite would be Christmas as he said the boys faces always looked like fireworks when they open their gifts. He liked to play card games. Jacks or better was his favorite poker game. Bob like to play basketball with the boys, horseshoes with his sisters and pool with the guys. He fished every chance he got. Bob liked to listen to country music and the oldies. He liked to listen to Hank Williams his favorite singer. One of the other things Bob liked to do was to play pranks on people like the night he made a dummy and put it in the restroom to scare the boys. It worked too. They woke us up at about three. One Christmas he gave my sister her gift. She spent about 45 minutes opening box after box to find her Kelly Clown she collects them. We all had a good laugh and so did she. Bob was a wonderful person and everyone liked him. Bob was good natured and kindhearted. I love and miss him more than ever but I can still laugh and smile when I think about him. He is truly missed and loved by all and always will be.
