Michael Dale Bemis was born on November 2, 1949 in Martinsville, IN as the fourth son to Charles and Frances Bemis. He was affectionately called "Mick" by one of his brothers, and the name stuck throughout his life. Mick graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1967 and married Katherine Richmond on May 29, 1971. He worked at Chrysler Corp. then Modern Inc. until July of 1979 when he had a brain aneurysm, which hemorrhaged two times and forced him to retire at the age of 29. Mick and Kathy had two children, Jason and Carrie. Two granddaughters were born in 1993. Haily Elmore and Ashley Bemis, with a grandson to follow in 2000, Danny Lewis, Jr. The most recent addition to his family came on January 14, 2004. Mikala Rae Bemis was named in memory of her Grandpa Mick.

Mick coached both of his children in various sports, and continued to coach little league baseball even after his own kids had grown. He was baptized in the Catholic faith in1992 at St. Mary Mother of Peace in Danville, Indiana were he also served on the board. Mick loved to volunteer at the summer festival for the church and could always be found in the gambling tent. At family functions he was never far away from a deck of cards; a game could break out at any time.

Mick came from long line of IU fans (primarily basketball) and carried on that tradition proudly. He wore an IU hat as part of his permanent attire for long as anyone can remember. Mick had a talent for making friends. He could strike up a conversation with anyone anywhere and could come up with a story about anything. Whenever his parents, in-laws, children, or anyone else needed a favor or support, Mick was there.

Mick fought his battle with cancer with courage and grace with the love and support of his family. His wife, Kathy along with her sister Diane and brother-in-law Jim provided Mick with one of greatest adventures the week before he passed away. They went to Atlantic City; NJ Mick loved the Caribbean Poker table and hit big on November 6th.

Mick will be forever missed and remembered by his entire family.
