Birth Date: 4/20/1909
Death Date: 3/31/1968
Washington Park East Cemetery
Section A, Lot 182, Grave 12

Frank Eugene Hill was born on April 20th, 1909 in Chicago, IL. The family moved from Chicago to Peoria, IL, then relocated to Indianapolis, IN. Frank graduated from St. Phillip Neri School in 1923 and attended Arsenal Technical High School.

Frank officially met Margaretta Elizabeth Leibel in the Standard grocery store where he was employed, although he had seen her before that time because they were neighbors and lived on adjoining streets. After a five year courtship, they were married on June 30th, 1938 by Rev. F. T. Taylor at the minister's home in Southport, IN; the marriage lasted nearly thirty years until his death on March 31st, 1968. After twelve years of marriage, Margaretta gave birth to their daughter, Linda Suzanne Hill.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Camp Blanding, FL, Co. B. 206th ITB. He was a rifle instructor. He was a member of American Legion Post 62 in Indianapolis. After the war, Frank was employed by the U.S. Postal Service where he was superintendent of mail at Fort Harrison in Indianapolis. He transferred to the main post office in the "old" federal building where he worked until his retirement in June 1967. He was a member of the Circle City Conservation Club and the United Federation of Postal Clerks, Local 130.

Frank developed heart problems when he was in his early 40's and was forced to retire on disability after suffering a heart attack on Friday, April 28th, 1967. He died March 31st, 1968 in Community Hospital East, just two months before his daughter graduated from Tech High School. He was survived by his widow, Margaretta E. Hill, daughter, Linda S. Hill, mother Blanche E. (Pearsall) Hill, sister Eleanor (Hill) Yeager, and brothers, Howard G. Hill and Ralph M. Hill. His parents were divorced in the early 1930's, but it was later found that his father, Ambrose E. Hill also survived and was living in Ohio at the time of Frank's death. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. William O. Lipp and were held at the Harry W. Moore Peace Chapel at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3rd, 1968. He was buried at Washington Park East Cemetery.

Frank was born on April 9, 1909 in Chicago, Illinois. This is the only known baby picture of Frank. It looks like he couldn't decide if he liked his flower.

Frank was about nine years old when this picture was taken on a tennis court in Chicago, Illinois. Note the knickers and the ears!

This picture was taken in 1922 and shows a happy family: son Frank, mother Blanche, father Ambrose, daughter Eleanor and younger son Howard. Youngest son Ralph was born two years later. Ambrose and Blanche were divorced in 1932.

Frank graduated from St. Phillip Neri grade school in Indianapolis in 1924. This was part of his class picture.

Frank and Margaretta Elizabeth Leibel were married on June 30, 1938. A little over five years later, he was drafted by the U.S. Army during World War II. He was thirty-four years old.

Margaretta always said that the Army and the Navy could get along. After Frank was drafted, his brother Howard enlisted in the Navy.

One can really see the family resemblance in this picture of Frank and his mother, Blanche Eleanor Pearsall Hill.

After twelve years of marriage, Frank and Margaretta were blessed with a baby girl, Linda Suzanne Hill, born on September 12, 1950. This picture was taken about a year later when he was teaching his daughter how to walk.

One of the few family pictures showing Margaretta, Linda, and Frank. This picture was taken about 1955.

Always handy around the house, Frank could cook, clean and iron as well as doing minor plumbing and electrical jobs. He died on March 31, 1968, just two months before his daughter graduated from high school and three months before his thirtieth wedding anniversary.
