Death Date: 2/11/2003
Washington Park East Cemetery
Garden of Freedom, Lot 59B, Grave 1

James Edward Scarborough, Sr. was born in Virginia, September 6, 1927. He worked in the coalmines in Kentucky. James also taught Vocational School. He went on to work security off and on. James loved to work with wood; he would build racecar beds, nativity scenes and birds to hang in your trees. James fought in WW2 in the US Army. He was awarded the World War 2 Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. He also served in the Korean War with the US Marines Corp. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the United Nation Service Medal.

He found God and was a firm believer in the Bible. He translated the bible to paper in his own words. James loved the outside. He would be outside from morning to night whenever the weather would allow. James loved all his kids and grandkids. If he could pass one thing on to anyone who reads this it would be, Read the bible, get right with God, and love one another.

May he rest in peace February 11, 2003.

LIVING IN THE DASH

I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on her tombstone from the beginning to the end.
He noted that first came her date of birth and spoke of the following dates with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all was the dash between the years.

For that dash represents all the time that she spent alive on earth+.
And now only those who loved her know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own; the cars+the house+the cash,
What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard+Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left, that can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough to consider what's true and real,
And always try to understand the way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger, and show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives like we've never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile+
Remembering that this special dash might only last a little while

So, when your eulogy's being read with your life's actions to rehash+
Will you be proud of the things they say about how you spent your dash?
