John Victor Strom was born June 24, 1927 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was raised in the twin city area by parents of Swedish heritage. He graduated from high school at age 16 and then attended six universities over the years before receiving his doctoral degree in adult education in 1974 from Indiana University. He had received his bachelor's degree from Augsburg College in 1948. Other universities included, Agustana Seminary, Luther Seminary, Pacific Lutheran Seminary, and Valparaiso University.A colleague once called him "the comforting presence" for anyone who needed solace. He was also noted for a sermon that was published in the Congressional Records regarding the Kent State incident. He was and ELCA Lutheran pastor and retired after 51 years of service. He also served from 1973 to 1974 as the chief probation officer for the Marion County Criminal Courts.Since retirement, he has been a member of 1st Trinity Lutheran Church.Contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation, and any American Indian Organization. |
