Eva Ruth Lingle was born in Washington County, Indiana, where she married Forrest Crist in 1912. They soon moved to Indianapolis and had a son John E. Christ. This would be Eva Ruth's only natural child. When her son grew to be a teenager, her first husband died. She married widower Homer Logan Wells who already had four children with his first wife Jennie Elizabeth Smallwood, a baby girl and three teenage boys. Eva Ruth raised his youngest child, Mary Lou, from her infancy. When Mary Lou matured and married, she named her firstborn for her two mothers, Jennie Ruth. Eva Ruth enjoyed playing hymns on the piano in the parlor and caring for her husband Homer as the years passed. She maintained the busy family home in Indianapolis and their summer cottage high on a hill above Lake Freeman north of Indianapolis where she planted a profusion of colorful flowers each spring. |
