For You Maddie
Our arms and hearts are so empty without you
We hope you are nor lonely or cold or afraid
Never feel lonely or afraid, because your mommy and daddy are always here for you.
We hope you are now in the arms of our grandparents and others who have passed from our family and friends
We know that whatever place you are now in, if it is called heaven, the afterlife,know that it is now a better place because you are there
Since you left us, we've been looking backward and remembering all of your days
Remembering your calls to us as you awoke in the morning and missing them very much. And remembering watching you sleep in your crib with a foot or hand hanging outside the rails.
Remembering your many faces, looks, and sayings and your soft little voice, which lately was not always so soft
We've also been looking forward and wondering when you would have reached that next milestone:
Eating more by mouth, talking in more sentences, dressing yourself, drawing circles, asking for a friend to come play, seeing your face as we entered Disney World and seeing your face
at the sight of your new room, seeing you open presents on your 3rd Christmas and your 3rd birthday, and having you become a big sister some day, and most of all we miss that we won't be able to see you each day and that we will never get to enjoy you as a 3 year old, four-year old and thereafter. But, we are so happy we got to know you as a baby, a one-year old and two-year old. We have any wonderful memories of your 34 months. We are so happy we were given the opportunity and privilege of being your parents for that time. We are most happy that you were given the opportunity to know nothing but happiness and to have a good quality of life for those 34 months.
Our Maddie, Our Cookie, you know that we will always look backward and forward and remember how you were and wonder what you would have become.
For the rest of our lives we will look backward and remember
For the rest of our lives we will look forward and wonder.
But, rather than just looking forward and backward,
We now can also look upward.
We love you Cookie and we miss you and every little thing about you very much.

Papa's poem to Maddie

Maddie was born on her due date. Maddie's delivery was very easy. Mommy and Daddy took her home in 48 hours.
|
Maddie had her open heart surgery at CHOP in 2000. She recovered very well in Philadelphia and we stayed at the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House while she recovered. In 2000 we were able to bring Maddie home to Indianapolis.

Maddie did very well back in Indianapolis after her surgery. Maddie began physical & occupational therapy. Her pt was Nady and her ot, Beth. Two very important people for the rest of her life.

We took Maddie to the Indianapolis "Zoo Boo" for her first Halloween. We Spent Maddie's first Christmas in Naperville, IL with her Nana and Papa.

We had a "Madeline" doll theme for Maddie's First Birthday party. Maddie had fun opening her birthday presents with her cousin and best friend, Jens Eric "G".

Maddie moved to a new house in April 2001. She began enjoying a new playset, gardening, taking long walks, going to the pool, and visiting her cousin "G" down the street. She also enjoyed eating pasta and getting really messy on her new picnic table and deck.

Maddie was a bumblebee for her second Halloween. She went Trick-or-Treating with "G", Uncle Jens and Daddy. Sept. 2001 (week before 9/11) we took Maddie to New York City's Columbia Presbyterian Hospital for evaluation in clinical trials. We spent our downtime (Labor Day Weekend) in Central park.

Maddie went to Nana & Papa's for her 2nd Christmas. Her favorite presents were her sled, kitchen, and playhouse. We had some nice family portraits taken for the 2001 Christmas season.

Maddie spent her summer playing with "G", Annie, Nana and Papa, and her therapists and nurses. She went swimming at the new 126th YMCA and at the neighborhood pool. Uncle Jens had fun playing "This Little Piggy" with Maddie! In April 2002 Maddie had a great visit to her Nana & Papa's house. She also had a fun visit with her Great Nana at her house in Glen Ellyn.

Maddie and "G" had fun posing for pictures in front of the birdbath at Uncle Jens. Aunt Beth liked to cuddle with "G" and Maddie! Annie and Maddie had fun together at Castleton's play area in October. Maddie loved posing in front of our flowers. In September, Daddy and Maddie visit Starbuck's before he left for military school in Georgia.
