Michael Donald Pirtle, son of Donald R. and Miriam C. Pirtle was born at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana, on June 23, 1963. Mike was the youngest of three children. Two sisters, M. Jane and Susan were born prior to his birth.
While growing up, Mike loved all types of sports. He participated in playing basketball, football, baseball, and running track. He enjoyed all types of water sports, and was especially proud of his fishing abilities. Mike attended the Speedway Schools and graduated from high school in 1982 after completing the Construction Trades Program at Ben Davis High School, Indianapolis, Indiana.
Mike chose the profession because his grandfathers, great grandfather, and many great uncles were carpenters by trade. Mike respected his paternal grandfathers and wanted to please them by choosing the profession.
Mike moved to Florida after completing high school and became employed as a construction worker. He remained in Florida for a number of years. Upon his return to Indiana, he lived in Terre Haute, Lafayette, and Indianapolis, continuing this type of occupation. Prior to his death, Smock Construction Company in Indianapolis employed Mike.
Mike loved his only nephew, Blair Webb. He built Blair his own playhouse when Blair was just a toddler. Mike was so proud of being able to do this for Blair!
Speedway Christian Church, Speedway, Indiana, was Mike's spiritual home, having been baptized at an early age. He believed in God and attended his church whenever possible. He also was quite involved in AA programs for spiritual strength and encouragement.
Even though Mike experienced many trails and tribulations in his short lifetime, he continued to shower love on those who meant so much to him. Mike loved people and had a robust laugh when he was happy. He will and is missed by his family and friends. At Mike's memorial service, it was gratifying to see so many people, young and old, friends old and new, pay their respects to him. Mike would have been pleased. |
