Section K, Lot 410, Grave 2

Thomas Stapert was born in 1918 in Indiana and resided here his entire life. He was survived by two sons the oldest being Thomas James and youngest being Charles Edward. Tom also had one daughter younger than the boys, Renda May.In Tom's early years, he worked on his parent's farm plowing the fields with a team of horses, milking cows, tending the garden and gathering eggs for his mother. Later on, during World War 2, Tom worked as a welder at he Union Station in Indianapolis until the mid 40's when his eye site could not tolerate it anymore. For the next 50 years plus, he worked as a plumber. He enjoyed this work and enjoyed talking about it. The last job of his career, the one he was most proud of and ran (also referred to as being the "Pusher"), was the one at the Hoosier Dome. After this job, Tom retired as a union plumber. However, he did not stop working. Tom went on to become Plumbing Inspector for the town of Cumberland for the next 25-30 years. When a plumbing problem in the community arose, Tom was usually able to help and did so until his death June 22, 2002.

Tom enjoyed being a spectator when his son Chuck raced. This race was particulary important since this was the maiden race of Chuck's new race car.
