As a grown man, I can look back at my father's guidance through out my life. I see him as man that was so strong and so smart. He always had a way with enforcing the true value of a job. He paid close attention to every detail no doubt. If something wasn't right, he wouldn't just try to fix it, he'd always start again right from scratch. His passion was building. My dad could build anything. He was the most creative man and he was very meticulous in each development. In an old house that our family once lived in, by his choosing a copper mailbox was placed in the front years. To this day, I can still drive by the old house on Pennsylvania Street and see that same mailbox. Normally, that would mean nothing to anyone, but just knowing that dad put it there with his own hands and it still stands and looks the same, it brings a smile to my face and a tear to my eye when I pass it.He learned early on how to really enjoy the earth. He took us on camping trips when we were young and sailed us on a few lakes too. He shared with our family the way of life on land and sea, or I should say land and lake. He has loved growing huge gardens of a variety of vegetables so tat he was always able to share. Dad grew up eating onion sandwiches smeared with butter, which has still been one of his favorites. Most men mind cooking but nit him, if he were here right now, I'm sure he'd argue the fact that he could cook any woman out of the kitchen!I don't think that we have to worry about Dad though. He studied the bible continuously and thoroughly. Now if any of you know dad, you know that when he gets to heaven he'll probably be anxious to quiz the Lord himself. Ha Ha.Although my children are young, I really don't believe that they will ever forget their Pop-Pop. I know that they will miss his wonderful meals, his tractor rides and his homemade ice cream. As my farewell to my father, I will conclude with this:Jimmy Applegate was a man of discipline in all that he sought to do. One thing my Dad would always say to us is this, 'Never start anything that you can not finish'. Accomplish your goals and always be precise in doing so.He instilled structure for us to mold our lives for that we are thankful.
