Mrs. Imogene Burton-Rowlett was born in Fulton, Kentucky, September 22, 1921, the 4th child born of 10 children born to Mr. Alfred Bates Burton and Mrs. Pattie Mae Morris Burton. Imogene attended public school and received a formal education. Mrs. Rowlett professed her hope in Christ at an early age, and joined the St. Paul AME Church, where she was active in the Sunday School Department and the Junior Choir.The family later moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where Sister Rowlett fellowshipped with the 17th Street Baptist Church under the Pastorate of the late Rev. Walter M. Edwards. There she became a very active member in the Sunday School Department, and the Choir. In 1944 or there after Mrs. Rowlett united with the Mount Vernon Baptist Church under the Pastorate of the late Rev. Mozel Sanders. She was a faithful member of the Missionary Society, and both the Senior Choir and the Mass Choir until her health began to fail. Her favorite song she sang with much enthusiasm was 'I'll meet you in the Morning!' mogene was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Lewis Harrison Rowlett on July 24, 1956, who preceded her in death. To that union one child was born, Victoria L. Rowlett-Fain, she was the mother of three daughters, Deanna J. Murphy, Victoria L. Fain, of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Marjorie A. Buchanan of San Antonio, Texas.Sister Rowlett worked in private homes as a childcare giver and homemaker for private families, and took much pride in her work, providing 15 years of service. She was very fond of children, and always made sure they were well taken care of. 'Momma Jean' as she was so fondly called by her nieces and nephews, was always found helping someone or cooking their favorite meal. She always made sure her grandchildren; nieces and nephews were well taken care of, and always made sure they attended church!Humbly Submitted The Family. |
