Section 4, Lot 1203, Grave 1

Clara Justine Johnson O'Brien, affectionately known as 'Nana', was born on April 23, 1908 in Owensboro, Kentucky. Her parents, Clara Koenig Johnson and William Johnson, had a total on nine children. At very young age, nana and her family moved to the south side of Indianapolis and she eventually attended Manuel High School. Soon thereafter, Nana secured her first job at Real Silk where she stitched nylon hose. Nana was recognized as an exceptional worker and was asked to work overseas. Fortunately, she turned the offer down to stay in the country she loved so dearly. While visiting her favorite soda shop, she met the handsome Thomas J. O'Brien and was taken by his charm. They later married on September 2, 1929.Clara and Tom lived on the south side of Indianapolis for several years. Their first home was on Tabor Street, and then they moved to Shannon Street and became members of Little Flower Parish. On September 13, 1931, Clara and Tom welcomed their first son into the world and named him John Thomas O'Brien. Their second child, Shirley Ann O'Brien Creamer was born on July 13, 1935.Eventually, the O'Brien family moved to 3935 Arlington Boulevard and although the home was 10 miles from St. Joan of Arc School, Clara made the drive daily to ensure her children received a Catholic education. In 1951, Clara discovered the home she 'just had to have' located at 8102 N. Pennsylvania Street, a home that will be forever known as 'Nana's House.' With 11 picture windows, three beautiful acres of land, a massive basement and the smallest kitchen this side of the Mississippi, the Limestone home on Pennsylvania Street holds treasured memories for both the O'Brien and Creamer families. Who can ever forget the 7-Up sodas served by Nana, the Easter Sunday brunches, the cast iron skillet fried steaks, the constant reminders to 'stay out of the kitchen' and most of all, just the feeling of Nana's presence every time you walked through the door. Her smile warmed a room, her laugh made her seem like a teenager, her wit won many hearts and her optimism kept everyone's spirits high.Nana had the uncanny ability to make everyone feel like they were her favorite. Her two children produced twenty grandchildren and at the time of her death on January 3, 1992 Nana had over 25 great grandchildren. She poured so much love into the family and always settled any dispute in her own unique way. She was a woman of high moral character and she wasn't timid in voicing her opinions. She was the most respected woman we have ever known and her love continues to shine in each of us. Nana was truly one of a kind, someone who affected our lives in such a deep manner. Although she is gone from this world, we know she is watching over us, making sure we stay on the 'straight and narrow' and guiding us in our daily lives. If everyone in the world was lucky enough to have had a 'Nana' like ours, the world would be a much better place.
