Birth Date: 10/26/1930
Death Date: 3/30/2002
Washington Park East Cemetery
Section J, Lot 951, Grave 10

Elizabeth Ann Ely was born October 26, 1930 to parents Garland B. and Helen Irene Ely at 715 N. Euclid Ave. in Indianapolis, Indiana. Sister Carolyn awaited the arrival Elizabeth Ann, soon became "Betty Ann" to family and friends.

She attended grade school at IPS # 58 and graduated from Thomas Carr Howe High School in 1948. Betty Ann met John Clark (Jack) at age 15 and they began dating. On September 3, 1949, they were married. Carolyn and her husband, Dale Seigfreid, were the attendants.

Early in the marriage the young couple lived in Oceanside, California where Jack was stationed at Camp Pendleton while serving in the US Marine Corp. When the tour of duty was completed, the couple returned to Indianapolis and began their family.

In 1954, Andrea Lynn was born followed soon after in 1955 by Duane Ely. Betty Ann and Jack moved their family to the Westside of Indianapolis. Brian Alan was born in 1959 and Charles Kenneth (Chuck) in 1960. In 1967, the Clark's moved back to the eastside into the family home on East 17th Street.

Betty Ann became actively involved with the boys in Cub Scouts. Being creative and crafty made her a terrific den mother. She touched the lives of her many "cubs". She was proud that her three sons went on to become Eagle Scouts.

In 1975, Betty Ann went to work at Mitchell & Scott Machine Co. as a receptionist. She retired from thereafter eleven years. She was an avid bowler and in later years, a swimmer at the Ransburg YMCA. She enjoyed camping and traveling. Betty Ann enjoyed cooking, sewing, playing cards and entertaining guests.

All four children married and grandchildren became an important part of her life. Andres and Chris Arvin have three children, Jeffery, Megan and Joseph. (One child John Michael died in 1984 at the age of six weeks). Brian married Joy Cory and they are the parents of Tyler, Cody and Austen. Chuck married Anne Abel and they have two children, Michael and Brittany. Duane married Sandra Lese and although they don't have children, they do have a dog!

In later years, poor health from diabetes and heart disease slowed Betty Ann down, but did not steal her spirit. Macular degeneration took her eyesight, but she was determined to try every avenue to regain her sight. She discovered acupuncture, which improved her vision for a period of time. She encouraged others to try acupuncture. Through all she never complained.

Betty Ann will be remembered by family and friends as a loving, generous and caring woman. She leaves a legacy of love.
