Marilyn Lorraine Hansen Reese was born on a farm near Vestaburg, Michigan. Dr. Becker came to the house to deliver her and it was 104 degrees. Her parents called her Lorraine, as that was a favorite name of a dear friend. She attended a country school that had eight grades and during the first year did not want to stay until her fiend would sit by her. She went to Stanton as a seventh grader and finished high school there. She was very adventurous and frequently was in many types of fun trouble. She graduated valedictorian of her class and was given a full scholarship to Michigan State University but opted to take a job for the state as she had a serious boyfriend named John whom she started dating in the 10th grade. She lived on a farm and was active in the 4-H with her Guernsey cow. She did a lot of cattle judging and was one of the best in Michigan. She was the Montcalm County Dairy Queen her senior year. She was baptized as a Baptist and was married in the Baptist church but later attended and was a member of Presbyterian and Methodist churches, She was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church and held various jobs in the Methodist Church. She was deeply involved in neighborhood activities, had Brownie troops, and helped in the schools. She was a stay-at-home mom until her last child was in the 5th grade. She loved all her children very much and gave them good moral and Christian training. Her high dedication to her church, family and friends was first in her life. She always wanted to attend college because she was interested in learning more all the time and she attended night school and completed two years of college. Her job as a teacher for thirteen years involved working with children below grade level and she loved every moment. She was the last person to leave the church on Sunday morning or a party because she wanted to get as much out of life as possible. She had great listening skills and loved conversing with what others had to say. She had a great ability to judge a person's character. She had wonderful skills as an interior and exterior decorator as she always made our house a warm cozy home. She loved the English language and helped the family speak correctly as well as corrected many papers for the children, grandchildren and husband. People loved being around her because of her true interest in them and she had a smile for everyone even though she might have been in great pain. As the wife of an engineer there were several moves involved during her lifetime and she was always supportive of her husband's decisions. As a wife, mother and Christian she was a wonderful success. |
