DIANNEÆS CHRONOLOGYBorn: 6/16/1937 in Milton, IndianaùShe said she had to share her birthday with FatherÆs dayùProof that mothers mean more to God.Grew up in Connersville, IndianaWent to nursing school at the old St. VincentÆs HospitalGraduated in 1958 the same year in which she met Jack. They met at a party when ôThe Meadowsö was a nice area and Jack had an apartment there.Married February 1960January 1961 Beth is bornMarch 1962 Teresa is bornLived on the East Side for 4 years1964 moved to SpeedwayJuly 1965 Mary is bornAugust 1970 Julie is bornDecember 1976 Andy joins the family1989 Dianne retires from Lakeview Manor after a long and dedicated nursing careerDianne isWife, mother and mother-in-law extraordinaire, grandmother, daughterA bunko and euchre playerA loving and joyful friend and neighborA girl scout leader An avid IU fanA craft maker, holiday decorator, flower stenciller, and CEO of the largest independent silk flower warehouse on the West Side. You know what I mean if you have ever been in her basement. Being DianneÆs son-in-lawIt is said, ôThat a daughter is a daughter all of her life, but you have lost your son when he takes his wife.ö While I love my family and would not trade them for the world, this rings true to me. I think, to a certain extent, it is also true for my three brothers-in-law as well. Before I even married Beth, Dianne went out of her way to make me feel welcome. Of course, I had known her since Mary and I had been in kindergarten together. My mother tells me that at one time we shared a party line. I ate ice cream at Baskin-Robbins and I won a poster contest that earned me 31 free ice cream cones. I played football in high school while Mary was a cheerleader. I voted for Jack the first time I was old enough to vote.Dianne made me feel special because of this connection. That was how she made all of her daughtersÆ husbands feel. She appreciated us as individuals and for our unique skills and abilities. She made us feel cherished for what we added to the family. I felt doubly blessed because of my close history with the Sneyds. Never more important, but special nonetheless.Funny MemoriesDianne-Homey and ôShut up, Dianne Honeyö (game playing and show tunes)The Dianne Sneyd gift-giving gauge (Did she cry?)ùCrying upon receiving a gas grill for Christmas. She probably cried when Jack got rid of an old car.Dianne as an angelPeople often say when someone dies that they have gone to a better place. In my opinion, Dianne made our world a very special place. She was an angel on earth and now she is a true angel of the lord, probably keeping close tabs on her grandchildren. I once heard that an angel could move with the speed of thought. I like to think that this applies to Dianne. She is a free and unfettered from any physical limitations she had here on Earth. I know that this weekend when IU plays IÆll be watching and if the ball bounces the HoosiersÆ way or comes out of the rim in their favor. I think that IÆll be forced to wonder if someone very special is giving them a little spiritual support.Shortly after marrying Beth, I began a holiday tradition. Each year I write an updated Christmas story about our family. I write it for the kids and read it out loud for fun. To me it is a hack-eyed version of Dr. Seuss meets ôThe Night before Christmasö, but Dianne made feel like I was destined to be the next Mark Twain. And since this dedication doesnÆt rhyme anywhere and the fact that Mary and Teresa asked that it not rhyme I have decided to close with a brief poem. ôHeavenÆs Newest AngelöOne day the angels, St. Peter, Gabriel and Michael went to see God'St. Peter began, ôLord there is a new angel with a laugh most giddy,öôHer boisterous laugh can be heard all over our heavenly city.ö Michael continued, ôLord she distracts the training of my warrior platoonsöôYou see it is the constant show tunes she croons.ö The Lord asked, ôCan you be more specific?öôWell, she sings songs from Carousel and South Pacific.ö Gabriel continued with a sign, ôStop her Lord, please you must tryöGod gave a reply, ôyou know I have always been fond of Bali Hali.ö St. Peter requested, ôplease Lord for these weekly games! You must rebuke heröGod pondered, ôI donÆt know? The other angels seem to like bunko and euchre.ö Michael came up with a final plea, ôOn the clouds, those stenciled flowers seem silly and sappyöGodÆs answer was, ôNo boys, you see all these things make Dianne happy.ö
